The Rectory

The past month has been spent getting the Rectory in Cheddington redecorated and equipped. It had been vacant for more than two years.

The first task was to paint all the walls in a light neutral colour and replace all the carpets. The cost of doing so was shared between the diocese and us. The redecoration and new carpets made a huge difference to the look of the house.

The diocese replaced the bath, toilets and sinks. They had already installed a new shower and a new kitchen and utility room. Last Tuesday the hard flooring around the new toilets and bath were being replaced, and whilst all this was going on Vicky and I spent from 7.30am until 6.00pm cleaning the whole place.

This weekend we move a few items of furniture using a 'Man with a Van.' This means we have a bed which makes the house habitable for the first time.

On Monday and Tuesday the kitchen appliances and some new furniture arrive from John Lewis Milton Keynes, so there will be a lot of unwrapping and connecting up to be done.

Cheddington

Start of a new phase in our ministry.

This week's Church Times includes an announcement that I am appointed NSM House for Duty, Cheddington with Mentmore.

This column is where I will try and briefly summarize where I am and what I am doing.

There is a lot to do. The Rectory has been inspected and work put in hand to bring the bathroom and toilets up to standard. This past weekend, the walls are being decorated, and when the carpet fitter returns from holiday, we will see how many rooms can be done.

Next weekend we will visit John Lewis Milton Keynes to buy white goods, some furniture and household equipment.

The move is now scheduled for 29 June, and we will be in occupation during July.
